A castle between medieval history and landscape

The Banchette Castle is located in the town of Banchette, just a few kilometres from Ivrea, in a strategic position between the plains and the entrance to the Canavese region. Built along ancient routes, the castle once played an important role in controlling the surrounding territory.

Today, although surrounded by a more urban setting, the castle still reflects its medieval origins and remains an interesting historical landmark.

Medieval origins

The origins of Banchette Castle date back to the Middle Ages, when the region was characterized by a network of fortifications. Its location along the routes connecting Ivrea and Turin made it a key point for controlling movement and trade.

Like many castles in the area, it served both defensive and administrative purposes.

A strategic role in the territory

The castle was part of a wider defensive system protecting access to Canavese. Its proximity to Ivrea, an important historical and commercial center since Roman times, increased its strategic importance.

Over time, different noble families and local powers controlled the castle, reflecting the political changes of the region.

Transformations over time

As centuries passed, the castle gradually lost its military role. Like many similar structures, it was adapted for residential use while preserving elements of its original architecture.

Today, the building reflects these different historical phases.

The castle today

Banchette Castle is currently privately owned and not open to visitors. However, it can be seen from the outside and remains an important part of the local historical heritage.

Its location makes it an easy stop during an itinerary exploring the castles of Canavese, especially when combined with a visit to Ivrea and nearby villages.

🧭 Visiting Information

Banchette Castle is located in the center of the town and can be easily reached during a visit to the Ivrea area. Although it is not open to the public, it remains a noteworthy historical landmark.
