One of the most fascinating historic residences in Piedmont

The Masino Castle is located in the area of Caravino, in the heart of Canavese, and is one of the most important and scenic historic residences in Piedmont. Set on a hilltop, the castle offers breathtaking views over the Ivrea morainic amphitheatre and the surrounding countryside.
Surrounded by a large park and featuring one of Italy’s most famous hedge mazes, the castle combines architecture, landscape and history in a truly unique setting. Today it is a popular destination for visitors, history enthusiasts and garden lovers.
Medieval origins
The origins of the castle date back to the Middle Ages, when it was built as a fortress to control the surrounding territory and communication routes. Over time, it became the residence of the Valperga family, one of the most important noble families in the region.

Thanks to its strategic location, the castle played a significant role in the political and military dynamics of the area.
A noble residence of culture and prestige
Over the centuries, Masino Castle was transformed from a defensive structure into an elegant aristocratic residence. Its interiors were enriched with frescoed halls, historic furnishings and an extensive library, reflecting the prestige of its owners.
The castle also became an important cultural center, linked to the intellectual and political life of Piedmont. This evolution makes it stand out among other castles in the region.
Transformations over time
Over the centuries, the castle underwent several architectural changes that gradually transformed it from a defensive fortress into a refined noble residence. Military structures were adapted or integrated into more elegant spaces, reflecting the changing needs and lifestyle of its inhabitants.
During the Renaissance and later periods, new decorative elements, terraces and gardens were added, enhancing both the aesthetic and residential character of the complex. These transformations contributed to shaping the castle as it appears today, where traces of its medieval origins coexist with later aristocratic features.
