A large castle between Canavese and the Vercelli plain

The Moncrivello Castle is located in the village of Moncrivello, in a strategic position between Canavese and the Vercelli plain. Built on elevated ground overlooking the surrounding landscape, it is one of the largest and most significant castles in the area.

Its impressive structure reflects the historical importance of Moncrivello as a key point of control between different territories.

Medieval origins

The origins of Moncrivello Castle date back to the Middle Ages, when it was built as a defensive structure to control communication routes between Piedmont and the Vercelli plain.

Over time, the castle was expanded and reinforced, developing into a more complex structure compared to many other castles in the Canavese region.

A castle linked to the House of Savoy

Moncrivello Castle also played an important role for the Casa Savoia, which used it as a residence and strategic stronghold.

Throughout its history, the castle hosted members of the nobility and served as a local center of power. Its location on the border between different regions increased its political and administrative importance.

Transformations over time

Like many other castles, Moncrivello underwent several transformations over the centuries. It gradually evolved from a purely defensive structure into a residential complex, with changes that improved its comfort and functionality.

These adaptations created a layered architectural structure, combining medieval elements with later additions, making the castle particularly interesting from a historical perspective.

The castle today

Today, Moncrivello Castle is privately owned and not generally open to visitors. However, its size and location make it a prominent landmark within the village.

It can be admired from the outside and is an interesting stop for those exploring the historic villages of Canavese and the surrounding areas.

🧭 Visiting Information

Moncrivello Castle is located in the center of the village, in an elevated position. Although it is not open to visitors, it is easily visible and remains one of the main landmarks of the area.
