Welcome to the Automobile Museum of Turin!

Automobile Museum of TurinAutomobile Museum of Turin

The Automobile Museum of Turin, in Corso Unità d'Italia, was inaugurated in the 1960s and is one of the oldest automobile museums in the world! Inside a vast building, the "MAUTO (Museo AUtomobile TOrino)" houses more than 160 car models; from the first cars of the 1920s and 1930s, to the opulence of American vintage cars (Cadillac), to the beautiful FIATs from Turin that gained enormous importance during the years of the economic boom!

Historical Background:

The idea for the automobile museum originated during a congress organized by the Automobile Club of Turin in 1932. The occasion was to celebrate the veterans of the automobile, those who had held a driving license for at least 25 years! Given the fame gained from the event, the directors of the Automobile Club and FIAT decided to pursue a project to open an automobile museum. On July 19, 1933, the city of Turin approved the creation of the future automobile museum! The main problem was finding a suitable location, as a fairly large space was needed. The search went from an old warehouse to a library and archive, to spaces under the stands of the city's municipal stadium, until 1960 when it reached its final (and current) location on Corso Unità d'Italia.

Personal experience!

I visited the museum at the end of May 2024, and I also saw the beautiful exhibit on Ayrton Senna! Personally, I loved this museum (it must be said that I am a car enthusiast) because it took me back in time to understand how the world's most used means of transport was born! It's an experience I will definitely do again, and I recommend it to you as well!

Not to be outdone, the museum dedicates a section to what we Italians call "the temple of speed." In the second area, you will find a succession of Formula 1 cars that have made history for one of the most famous car manufacturers in the world: Ferrari!
